News: Bell & Ross BR-X1 HyperStellar
As mankind has explored increasingly extreme environments, horology has always strived to keep pace. From climbing Everest to diving deep into the Marianas Trench, watchmakers have had to find ingenious new ways to construct timepieces that will endure unforgiving conditions—and space travel is no exception. Ever since Yuri Gagarin slipped the surly bonds of Earth on 12 April 1961, watches have accompanied cosmonauts and astronauts into space, made by such illustrious brands as Tag Heuer, Rolex and Omega, to name a few.
The Bell & Ross BR-X1 HyperStellar is the latest in this long and distinguished line of space-faring timepieces. Created as a tool for those living and working in space, the piece features a chronograph complication and a durable titanium and aluminium case. In the brand’s signature square shape, the case measures 45mm and is covered with a bumper of micro-blasted titanium and rubber, to protect the in-house calibre 313 inside from unexpected impacts during missions.
The watch design features a subtle combination of grey and blue, reminiscent of two dominating aspects of life in space: the grey of the moon and the blue of the Earth’s oceans. A special edition, it is only available in a limited run of 250 pieces.
