News: Breitling Avenger Hurricane 12H

If there’s one thing you can say about Breitling, it’s that the aviation-inspired watch brand definitely has its own distinctive sense of style. Breitling watches ooze confidence, not simply because of the over 100 years of watchmaking experience that goes into every watch, but because of their bold and confident aesthetic. The new Breitling Avenger Hurricane 12H is no exception, with its whopping 50mm case.

We first saw this watch in the spring of 2016, and it's back with a vengeance for 2017. Despite its size, this watch is actually deceptively light due to the material of the case. Dubbed ‘Breitlight’ by the brand, the material is a futuristic polymer that’s been toughened up with composite fibres to make it incredibly durable as well as lightweight (three times lighter than titanium, in fact).

The case makes for a dominating presence on the wrist, with its cool matte effect and indented markers on the bezel. The watch is available with both a black dial, or for the more daring, can also be had with the striking, mustard-hued ‘Cobra’ yellow dial. As it’s an aviation inspired watch, the hands and indices are lumed and the stencil-style numerals are large and highly legible. The bezel is unidirectionally rotatable with four rider tabs, and the crown and push-pieces are large and fitted with a non-slip grip for easy manipulation when wearing gloves. The sporty strap is made of high-resistance military textile fibre, lined with rubber.

Inside the watch beats the in-house automatic Breitling calibre 01, offering a respectable power reserve of 70 hours. A COSC-certified chronometer, the movement offers regular time, a chronograph function, and a calendar display between 4 and 5 o’clock.
